The Spirit of Chinese Culture (II) by Dr. Yu

- Science is strange way of thinking. Scientists seek for the truth. They have a claim and then collect evidence in order to prove it is wrong. However, common people just have an opinion and then find useful evidence in order to support it.
- The development of Western science has been based on two great achievements, the invention of the formal logical system and the discovery of the possibility of finding our causal relationships by systematic experiment (at Renaissance). By Alber Einstein
- Philosophy....for it was when almost all the necessities of life and the things that make for comfort and recreation had been secured, that such knowlege began to be sought....but as the man is free, we say, who exists for his own sake and not for another's, so we pursue this as the only free science, for it alone exists for its own sake. By Aristotle
- Only Greece cares about knowledge that does not have applications. That is probably why they have science. In face, they take wonder and curiosity seriously.
- Philosophy is not a science of production.
- We shall not raise the question 'why is there no science in China'. Instead, we may ask 'why science emerged in the West'.
- Aristotle is the master of all knowledge.
- How to prove that the earth is round? By Aristotle
- All the world is made up of water. By Thales
